What drew you to the rubber industry, and what has made your career in the industry rewarding?
Goodyear's brand and the importance of tires to society is what drew me in. The importance of tires has become particularly evident since the COVID-19 pandemic began. While much of the economy came to a halt, tires and service were among the businesses that were considered "essential" to keeping the world's supply chain moving and keeping people who needed to drive on the road. Watching the industry continuously innovate and evolve, and having the privilege to be a part of it is extremely rewarding to me.
Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by working with a tremendous group of people who all work to move the industry and Goodyear forward. Being part of a high-performing team inspires me to bring my best to work every day. As part of the finance function, it is very rewarding to have opportunities to help demonstrate how finance can be instrumental in helping drive our business.
Who were your career mentors, and what role did they play?
I have had several informal and formal mentors throughout my career. The best mentors have pushed me beyond the technical aspects into becoming a better leader, starting with understanding the needs of my team and finding ways to motivate and inspire them to bring their best to what they do.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
One of my mentors once told me that one of the most important responsibilities of a leader is to ensure that I consistently do everything I can to help foster the success of others.
In your opinion, what needs to be done to encourage females to pursue STEM-related careers?
Continued education of what doors STEM careers can open for women and what opportunities there are to make an impact on the world through STEM-related careers. Within Goodyear, there are many opportunities that will allow anyone to diversify their skill sets and growth all within the same company. In this environment, it is STEM skill sets that will drive the economy and society forward. These roles will continue to be critically important as the world evolves into the new normal.
