CERRITOS, Calif.—R.D. Abbott Co. Inc. and the ACS Rubber Division don't just want to celebrate the women in the rubber industry.
They want to recruit more.
That's why they partnered on an 80-second video designed to appeal to high school and college students through the Rubber Division's year-round student outreach program.
The video features short clips and still images of women throughout the rubber industry, celebrating the contributions women are making as scientists, executives, engineers and leaders in marketing, sales, manufacturing, warehousing, and beyond. The video also highlights women from the past and present rubber industry with experiences ranging from one to 43 years.
The video which debuted during the Oct. 21 "Women of Rubber" event at the International Elastomer Conference, will be shared throughout the local rubber groups of the Rubber Division as well as social media outlets and other digital channels.
The video's other sponsors are TSE Industries, Hallstar, Dow Silicones, Parker LORD, Cancarb Limited, 3M, Alpha Technologies, Dalian Richon and TA Instruments.
During the video's production, several of the women featured in the video were asked "What drew you to the rubber industry, and what has made your career in the industry rewarding?"
"I enjoy the challenge of often being the only woman in the room and challenging perspectives just by doing work I love," said Taylor Phillips, a laboratory technician at Cancarb Ltd.
"Success in this industry requires determination, hard work and effort," added Veselinka Mitevska, a technical manager at TSE Industries, "but if you are driven and passionate, it is worthwhile."
