Goodyear is putting a twist on the traditional bed and breakfast experience with a football-themed overnight stay that's unlike any other.
On Oct. 15, the Akron-based tire maker listed one of its iconic blimps on Airbnb, offering three single-night stays aboard the aircraft based in Suffield, Ohio. While the blimp stays grounded for the duration of the stay, Goodyear has offered access to the hangar and the surrounding property, which includes a view of Wingfoot Lake.
For the duration of the stay, the blimp will be parked in the hangar, which itself is larger than two and a half football fields. A small sitting area has been laid out just outside of the blimp's gondola, offering guests a place to stretch their legs, watch television and grab a cup of coffee or a drink from the bar.
The property surrounding the hangar also has been outfitted with tailgating essentials: A grill, small fire pit and corn hole toss.
While the stay is billed as a football tailgate experience, there is no doubt that it offers a unique look at history as well. Built in 1917, the Goodyear hangar has seen the construction of more than 200 aircraft. The tire maker unveiled an Ohio Historical Marker at the hangar last year, officially making it one of the the state's prominent landmarks.
Each overnight of the stays, which were booked for Oct. 22, 23 and 24, cost just $150. Those lucky enough to snag one of the accommodations also received tickets to the University of Michigan-Notre Dame rivalry game in Ann Arbor on Oct. 26.
