SANTA ANA, Calif.—Yokohama Tire Corp. (YTC) is returning as the official tire supplier for the 2021 Nitro Rallycross (Nitro RX) season, which begins Sept. 24 at the Utah Motorsports Campus near Salt Lake City.
The five-race series returns after a one-year hiatus and features Yokohama's Advan A054 tires on the all-wheel-drive, 600-plus horsepower vehicles.
"We're ready to race," said Fardad Niknam, Yokohama's senior director of consumer product planning and product marketing. "The Advan A054 was specifically engineered for the high demands of rallycross."
The tire has an FIA-approved groove pattern and incorporates an ultra-stiff construction with a high-traction compound, "perfect for the variable surfaces and giant jumps," Niknam said.
This year's other Nitro RX races will take place at venues in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota and Nevada.
Besides Nitro RX, Yokohama's other 2021 North American-based motorsports activities—both on- and off-road—include: the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America; Yokohama Drivers Cup USA; Porsche Pikes Peak Trophy; Global Time Attack and Super Lap Battle USA; SCORE; Crandon International Raceway sponsorship; One Lap of America; Subaru Mt. Washington Hillclimb; 24 Hours of Lemons; Yokohama Tire Jeepspeed Race Series; TrophyLite Series; Championship Off-Road Series Partnership; Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000; and Yokohama Sonora Rally.
