NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Hankook Tire America Corp. is a finalist in the automotive and transportation category at the International Design Excellence Awards 2019 competition for the tire maker's concept tires "Hexonic" and "'HLS-23."
Hankook calls Hexonic a tire for "fully-autonomous car sharing that provides optimized driving solutions with smart sensors."
The HLS-23 is a logistics transport system that the company said "guarantees sustainable logistics services through individual or assembled group operation based on the size and weight of the deliverables, traveling through road-coordinate recognition and self-charging."
Hyun Bum Cho, Hankook Tire president and CEO, said the award "has enabled Hankook Tire to demonstrate its innovative design leadership to the world. We will continue our efforts to improve our cutting-edge technology and competitiveness as a global leading company."
IDEA is organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America.
Hankook Tire received three "winners" in the categories of Professional Concept and Product at iF Design Award 2019, in February, for the Hexonic and HLS-23, as well as the passenger car Kinergy 4S 2 tire.
The company also won Red Dot Award 2019 in Product Design in March for its UHP flagship tire, Ventus S1 evo 3.
The company said it continues to explore innovative designs through R&D investments and joint projects.
