Toyo showed off the Open Country R/T Trail to media Sept. 30 in Big Bear, Cailf.

BIG BEAR, Calif.—Toyo Tire USA Corp. will grow its popular Open Country off-road tire lineup with the release of the Open Country R/T Trail on Nov. 1.

Toyo describes the Open Country R/T Trail as an on- and off-road rugged terrain tire that delivers better off-road grip than a traditional all-terrain tire, most evident in sand, mud and deep snow.

The R/T Trail sits between A/TIII (first introduced in 2020) and the R/T (2014) in the Open Country lineup. The R/T Trail is a more aggressive tire than the A/T but offers a more quiet ride and better highway performance than the R/T.

Toyo Open Country R/T Trail has a new tread design for optimized on- and off-road durability, traction and stability.

"Advances were made in tread design for optimized on- and off-road durability, traction and stability, providing improvements in grip and performance in both wet and dry conditions," the company said.

The tire features staggered scalloped shoulder blocks and extra-thick sidewall lugs that dig into soft terrain and uneven surfaces. Other features focused on durability and off-road capabilities include wide circumferential grooves, lateral zig-zag grooves and stone ejectors, 4-way tapered notches and a rim protector. A heavy gauge sidewall will also help protect from cuts, impacts and punctures, Toyo said.

The R/T Trail was designed at Toyo's research and development center in White, Ga., and the company said most of the tires will be built at the production facility there.

"We are thrilled to announce the all-new Open Country R/T Trail, our latest off-road capable tire," said Todd Bergeson, senior manager, product planning and technical services, Toyo Tire USA. "This exciting new tire was developed in the USA at our White, Ga., based R&D facility. Our development team and engineers spent an extensive amount of time 'wheeling' with off-road enthusiast clubs across the country while testing in the harshest conditions to ensure we exceed the expectations with our design, capability and durability."

The R/T Trail launches Nov. 1 in the most popular sizes for light trucks and SUVs from makes including Ford, Jeep and Toyota. The line will eventually be expanded to 47 unique size and load combinations for 16- to 24-inch wheel diameters and up to a 38-inch overall diameter. Speed ratings will include Q, R, S and T; and the load range will include C, D, E and F.

The R/T Trail comes with a 45,000-mile treadwear warranty and the Toyo Tires No Regrets 45-Day/500-Mile Trial Offer.
