COSTA MESA, Calif.—Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. is upgrading the maximum-performance version of its Proxes high-performance line, dubbed the Proxes Sport 2, that the company said offers measurably improved cornering and braking performance versus the predecessor model.
The Proxes Sport 2, scheduled to be available starting in February 2025, features a redesigned profile shape and distinct silica-based tread compounds on the inner and outer sides of the tire's asymmetric tread profile that work together to deliver enhance cornering and braking traction, Toyo said.
More specifically, Toyo said the more flexible inner compound adapts to varying road surfaces for optimal grip, while the more rigid outer compound resists deformation, boosting cornering performance.
The asymmetric tread pattern works together with the "dynamic" taper design element to ensure consistent contact with the road to maximize acceleration, braking and cornering performance, Toyo said.
The Proxes Sport 2 delivers a 15-percent shorter stopping distance in wet conditions and 10-percent shorter on dry surfaces versus the predecessor Proxes Sport, which debuted in 2018, according to Kevin Arima, senior manager, consumer products.
The Proxes Sport 2 tire will be produced in 75-plus sizes covering 17- to 22-inch rim diameters in Y speed ratings while carrying a 25,000-mile treadwear warranty and a 45-Day/500-mile trial offer. The products are built at Toyo's plant in Sendai, Japan.
Popular fitments include the Audi SQ5, BMW M Models, Ford Mustang Dark Horse, Tesla Model X and Toyota Supra GR, Toyo said, without disclosing pricing information.
