BEIJING—China exported 49 million new rubber tire units in May, up 4.8 percent on the same month a year ago, according to the latest official state figures.
Weight of tire exports last month reached 660,000 metric tons, up 28.5 percent on May 2021, said China's General Administration of Customs.
The value of exports in May, as presented in U.S. dollars, shot up by 38.7 percent year-on-year, to $1.7 billion
Over the first five months of 2022, China exported 233 million units of tires, registering a 1.3-percent decrease from a year ago.
Export value jumped 19 percent from the same period in 2021 to $7.6 billion. Volumes in tonnage climbed 7.7 percent to 3 million metric tons.
China's tire production in May declined 10 percent year-on-year to 70 million units, said China's National Bureau of Statistics. In April, the number fell by 21 percent.
Production over the first five months totaled 341 million units, dropped 9.3 percent on the same period in 2021.
