AKRON—Smithers expert Christine Domer and independent consultant Walter Waddell will kick off a three-part webinar series on green tire chemistry with "The Green Tire 101: Performance Materials" at 11 a.m. EST on Jan. 19.
Domer and Waddell will cover green tire development work from the early 1990s to the present day, reviewing initial patent work, the "magic triangle," tire labeling, and other important factors in the history of the green tire.
They also will review the importance of silica technology in green tire development and discuss other performance-enhancing materials that have impacted tire tread performance, including elastomers, process oils, performance resins, and organisilanes.

Domer is Smithers' general manager of Akron Laboratories and Tire Services. She has more than 30 years of material science experience in the tire and rubber industries.
Waddell is an independent consultant for Smithers. He retired from ExxonMobil Chemical and worked at Carnegie-Mellon University, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and PPG.
