AKRON—Smithers Group is planning a one-hour webinar for Dec. 4 on the use of silica in tire compounding featuring Bruce Lambillotte, vice president of technical consulting for Smithers and an industry veteran with over 40 years of experience.
The webinar, which is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on the 4th, will bring listeners up to date on Smithers' view of the tire industry's use of silica, based on a study the industry research group conducted this year to update a similar one it compiled in 2011.
According to Smithers, silica usage is a "critically important" tool in the compounding of tire treads for rolling resistance reduction, wet traction improvement, tire labeling compliance and sustainability.
Lambillotte joined Smithers in 1995 after a 23-year career with Continental Tire the Americas.
His expertise extends beyond rubber compounding into tire formulation construction and reconstruction, polymer materials chemistry and characterization, physical properties of elastomer materials, polymer product failure analysis, tire reinforcements, and product and process development, Smithers said.
