At this pace, the tire maker said, it set to achieve its target for market share in high-end EVs—defined as 1.5 times that of Premium/Prestige internal combustion vehicles—three years ahead of schedule.
Pirelli believes that its Elect tires are drawing the attention they deserve, saying they meet the demands of electric vehicles and play a key role in allowing EVs to perform optimally. The Elect's low rolling resistance contributes to a longer battery life, while the durable tread compound not only handles the torque that EVs bring, it gives the tire the grip in needs in all weather conditions.
Elect tires also are sturdy enough to handle the weight of electric vehicles, while the tread pattern helps to keep road noise to a minimum.
The technologies and developments that are driving adoption of Elect tires are helping Pirelli perfect its portfolio of summer, winter and all-season tires. The P Zero, Scorpio and Cinturato lines all have elements of Elect technology in their make-ups.
"Technology and sustainability are the pillars on which Pirelli's research and development work is based," Pierangelo Misani, Pirelli's senior vice president of research and development and cyber, said in a statement. "Thanks to increasingly innovative technology, we support the transition of car manufacturers toward greener vehicles with tires suited to their performance."
Elect technology also has allowed Pirelli engineers to better tailor original equipment fitments that better meet the needs of OEMs including Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porche, Volvo and BMW.
