MONTEREY, Calif.—Looking to leverage the publicity that the annual Monterey Car Week for vintage automobiles generates, Pirelli Tire North America sponsored "Concorso Italiano," said to be the largest gathering of luxury and exotic Italian cars worldwide.
As many as 800 vintage Italian vehicles were expected to be on display at the Concorso on Aug. 17 at the Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Course in Monterey, Pirelli said, many of which are custom fit with Pirelli Collezione vintage tires, a range created for luxury and sports cars built between 1950 and 1980.
As part of its sponsorship of the annual event, Pirelli presented the "Perfect Fit" award, which recognized exhibitors who have achieved a perfect fit for their vehicles including tire fitment, overall style and more. The celebration also included a donation to the Concorso Italiano Foundation, a non-profit that supports the children of Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Support Service in Watsonville, Calif.
"Pirelli works closely with the world's most chosen luxury, sports and supercar brands to tailor-make specific tires to enhance the characteristics and performance of every individual car model, creating a customized fit," PTNA CEO Marco Crola said.
"This approach is called the Pirelli Perfect Fit Strategy and it is certainly visible at the Monterey Car Week, where a large number of the most beautiful cars at this event will be fitted with Pirelli tires."
A panel of Pirelli experts also were on site to evaluate each vehicle and crown the winner of the award at a stage presentation during the Concorso Italiano.
