Pirelli fine-tunes P Zeros for '24 Porsche Cayenne

MILAN, Italy—Porsche A.G. has extended a 22-year-old original-equipment supply relationship with Pirelli & C. S.p.A. covering all fitments for the 2024 Cayenne SUV.

Pirelli designed a set of tires for the latest iteration of the Cayenne derived from its P Zero tire range that will be available for every wheel size of the Cayenne, covering 20- to 22-inch rim diameters.

Pirelli has equipped every generation of the the Cayenne—a four-door, five-passenger all-wheel-drive hatchback SUV—since the vehicle's debut in 2002. Pirelli shares the OE supply portfolio with other, unnamed suppliers.

For the latest model, Pirelli developed specific P Zero, P Zero Corsa and Scorpion Winter 2 tires approved by Porsche for low-temperature driving; Scorpion Zero All Season tires also are available for some markets in every size, Pirelli said.

The Pirelli P Zero made for the new Cayenne "meets the demands for drivability, steering precision, stability, and safety even during emergency manuvers," Pirelli said.

All sizes of the tire have achieved the highest rating on the European label when it comes to wet braking, the tire maker said. The tire has been designed to support the high torque and loads generated by the Cayenne, especially at high speeds.

The Pirelli P Zero Corsa has been chosen for sports and track driving. The tire was derived from the P Zero Corsa tire that was equipped on the Porsche Cayenne GT when it set a record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 2021, Pirelli said.

The P Zero Corsa for the new Cayenne—as well as the previous version—is made with tread compounds derived from motorsport and developed to equip the fastest cars in the world.

The new Cayenne is one of the first vehicles to be have a specific Pirelli Scorpion Winter 2 tire approved for the winter season that covers the entire range of wheel sizes.

Pirelli engineers faced demanding challenges creating the tires. The tires had to ensure control at low temperatures and on snow while also maintaing high performance on dry and wet surfaces, while keeping "the same sporting DNA that Porsche expects from a summer tire," Pirelli said.

Pirelli's R&D team created a dedicated winter compound that offers driving comfort as well as "tangible" grip in extreme conditions.
