KIRSEHIR, Turkey—Petlas Tire Corp. has released a new winter tire pattern, designed to excel on challenging road conditions: Glacier W661.
The tire provides an excellent combination of grip and braking performance, Petlas said, with multi-faceted claws located between the blocks and shoulder that provide firm contact with snow or ice, transferring acceleration and braking power to the road.
The pattern creates additional gripping edges, while offering predictable and precise handling, according to Petlas. The pattern's transverse grooves are designed to avoid slipping in slush, and the tread compound works well in various temperatures, Petlas said, maximizing overall value per cost.
The tire, which is being produced in Petlas' facility in Kirsehir, has the three-peak mountain snowflake designation and is available in three sizes with reinforced sidewalls: 215/5R17, 225/50R17 and 225/45R17.
Petlas said it plans to expand the size range by offering 14 additional sizes for 13- to 17-inch rim fitments.
"Our R&D team has discovered a new way of enjoying the underestimated beauties of winter, the ones that only the harshest weather conditions may create." said Oguz Ay, international sales and marketing director of Petlas.
Mr. Ay said the Turkish tire maker wanted to produce a tire that will keep drivers moving in severe conditions.
"When it comes to winter driving, reliability is the key," he said. "Drivers need tires that can help them navigate through life with a tranquil mind free of worrying about the surprises winter has in store. This new pattern will help us uncover opportunities to find new venues of growth and will depict our aspiration to create the feeling of ultimate 'trust.' "
Petlas said it is planning to offer a similar tire, named the Explero Ice W681, to service SUVs, CUVs and 4x4 vehicles. The company did not specify when that product will be released.
