The Snowproof 2 and Snowproof 2 SUV feature upgraded Alpine Sense Grip technology with a V-shaped pattern, 3D siping and a new compound. The tread design, Nokian said, removes snow and slush between the tire and the road, while the 3D siping enhances lateral and longitudinal grip in deep snow.
The compound's high silica content enhances wet grip.
To enhance its safety and performance, the tire tread for the tires features two functionalized zones—the Grip Zone and the Handling Zone. Small blocks and aggressive siping near the center area of the tire enhance snow traction and braking properties, while the stiff shoulder blocks of the Handling Zone allow for enhanced handling on dry roads at high speeds, Nokian said.
The new upgraded Alpine Grip 2.0 compound used in the Snowproof 2 and Snowproof 2 SUV is engineered to handle winter's temperature swings, performing optimally in mild weather and responding reliably when temperatures rise and fall. For this, Nokian credits the compound's increased use of resins and functionalized polymers, which "keep it flexible, yet grippy in a wide range of conditions."
Durability is built into the Snowproof 2 SUV as well, Nokian said, pointing to the Aramid Sidewall technology, which uses Aramid fibers to enhance the tire's resistance to impacts and cuts.
In addition to new tire models, the Snowproof includes a product upgrade.
Previously known as WR Snowproof, the updated passenger car tire still will be available, but will go to market as the Snowproof 1. This passenger car model's improvements are especially evident in its performance in wet driving conditions, Nokian said.
The final tire in the line is the Snowproof P, an ultra-high-performance tire that boasts Alpine Sense Grip technology for safety and reliability.
In all, the Snowproof product range covers rim sizes from 15 inches to 21 inches, and its products have speed ratings of T (190 km/h), H (210 km/h) V (240 km/h) and W (270 km/h). Most of the products are marked XL for the highest possible load capacity in their size.
The new Snowproof product range will be available to consumers this fall.
