ATLANTA—Nissan North America Inc. has selected an 18-inch version of the Kumho Crugen HP71 all-season tire as the exclusive standard OE fitment on the 2022 Pathfinder SUV, which launched in North America in June.
The latest-generation redesigned Pathfinder—Nissan's full-size four-door SUV with seating for up to eight—will come equipped with the Crugen HP71 in size 255/60R18, according to Kumho Tire USA Inc.
The redesigned Pathfinder—part of Nissan's North American lineup for 35 years—features a 3.5-liter Direct Injection V6 rated at 284 horsepower, a nine-speed transmission and "intelligent" 4-wheel drive with seven-position drive and terrain-mode selector. The package provides 6,000 pounds of towing capacity.
The 2022 Pathfinder is offered in both 2- and 4-wheel-drive versions and in four trim levels: S, SV, SL and Platinum. The 18-inch Crugen HP71 size is the standard OE fitment on all platforms.
Nissan also lists a 255/60R20 as an optional tire fitment; Nissan did not identify which model or models are available.
Kumho claims the Crugen HP71, which Kumho launched the HP71 in 2018 as a replacement for the KL33 and Ecsta STX for the CUV/SUV and sport SUV segment, provides quick handling and performance due to its strong center tread elements and improved shoulder blocks. Additionally, its full depth sipes and wide circumferential grooves improve wet weather traction and reduce the risk of hydroplaning.
Variable Pitch Technology helps cut rolling resistance and offers comfort and reduced noise generation.
The tires are produced at Kumho's factory in Macon, Ga.
