LOCKBOURNE, Ohio—Nexen Tire America Inc. has opened its third distribution center in the U.S., leasing a 240,000-sq.-ft. facility in Lockbourne, which previously was used by Continental Tires the Americas. The move allows Nexen to better service customers throughout the Midwest, Great Lakes and the Northeastern States.
The tire maker plans to use about 190,000 square feet of space in the facility, which Nexen said is strategically located with easy access to Interstates 70 and 71 that intersect in Columbus, Ohio. The facility's centralized location in the Midwest also helps to reduce delivery times, lower costs and expand resources to its network of tire dealers.
A third party warehousing company has been hired to help with daily operations, and new racks have been purchased to accommodate its inventory. The third-party company has a staff of nine employees there.
John Hagan, vice president of sales for Nexen, said that after the planning stage, "we are excited to bring an additional warehouse into operation to further support our distributors and retailers. We understand with the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, our priority is to be there to support our partners in every way possible.
"This warehouse is an example of our ongoing support to our partners, and we will be there to support and fill your business needs in the future."
Lockbourne is a village of about 250, located near Rickenbacker International Airport, just south of Ohio's state capital.
