PARIS—WWF France and Michelin have renewed their zero deforestation partnership for another four years to further develop sustainable practices amongst natural rubber producers.
Begun in 2015, the partnership will seek to advance a pilot project in Indonesia to restore forests and build responsible rubber plantations, Michelin said. The project already is under way in regions that have sustained damaged or have been given priority status for the WWF due to their rich biodiversity and proximity to the Bukit Tigapuluh park.
The field project has made "major progress" in areas such as inclusion of local communities, clamp down on illegal deforestation and the protection of land for the elephant population, Michelin said.
During the initial phase of the collaboration, Michelin and WWF worked on the definition of sustainable NR, the development of procurement practices, and the promotion of good practices.
