GREENVILLE, S.C.—Michelin North America Inc.is recalling 144 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ZP tires in the U.S. and Canada because the Department of Transportation certification symbol for the manufacturing site is missing from the sidewall.
The Pilot Sport 4 tire being recalled is size 255/35ZR19 96Y XL with DOT codes 0521 through 2121, indicated the tires were made over a period of 16 weeks, from early February through late May 2021.
Dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. U.S. owners may contact Michelin customer service at 888-847-8475. The number in Canada is 888-871-4444.
This error occurred during production at Michelin Group's plant in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary, and was confined to the one dimension of this tire line.
Michelin said in a correspondence with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notification it had determined that 82 of the tires produced entered the U.S. market, 58 entered the Canadian market and four were quarantined in a Michelin distribution center in the US.
Michelin further noted that production of this tire line is being moved to a factory in Cuneo, Italy, and therefore replacement tires will carry that plant's DOT ID code of HD or 1HD.
