WASHINGTON—Representatives from both Kumho Tire and Pirelli are joining the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association board.
Yong-Sik Shin of Kumho and Pietro Berardi of Pirelli were elected to the group during a July 29 virtual meeting, the trade group said.
Board Chair Steve McClellan, president of Americas for Goodyear also saw his current term extended through October 2021.
"The Board's decision to ask Steve to continue as chair during these unpredictable times speaks to the confidence they have in his strong leadership," USTMA CEO Anne Forristall Luke said in a statement. "The elections of Pietro Berardi and Yong-Sik Shin augment an already exceptionally talented and strategic board who will help steer our industry through a robust economic recovery and resilient future."
Shin has served as CEO of the American Business Division for Kumho Tire since September 2019. He previously was the company's head of global sales. He leads four Kumho subsidiaries – Kumho Tire USA Inc., Kumho Tire Canada, Kumho Tire Latin America and the Kumho Tire plant in Georgia "from a sales and overall operations perspective," USTMA said.
Berardi joined Pirelli in March following his work most recently as vice president at The Alliance of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi where he managed global commercial operations and strategy for the parts and services business.
"I am honored to continue my role as chair of USTMA's board, particularly now," McClellan said in a statement. "As a $148 billion industry that helps power the U.S. manufacturing economy, it is critical that we maintain a strong and unified voice on reopening the American economy and on policy issues affecting the nearly 100,000 women and men who work for our member companies."
USMTA represents 13 tire manufactures in the U.S., which together operate 57 locations in 17 states. Member company annual sales are more than $27 million.
