COLOMBO, Sri Lanka—Global Rubber Industries Pvt. Ltd. is using natural processing oil in the production of an environmentally friendly version of its Ultimate XT solid rubber tire.
The Colombo-based maker of agricultural, construction and other specialty tires, developed the tire in collaboration with scientists from the University of Colombo.
The company said testing indicted replacing petroleum-derived oil in the tires with natural oil resulted in a "superior performance," and the company will continue a strategy to increase efficiency and reduce pollution across all of its platforms.
GRI did not specify the type of oil being used.
The Ultimate XT solid tire is made from Sri Lankan rubber and engineered to reduce rolling resistance and increase run time, ensuring longer tire life and less energy consumption.
"This eco-friendly formulation coupled with its wide profile footprint has statistically proven to reduce tire wear proportionately throughout the tire life cycle while having the capability to run on all surface conditions in any application including, indoor, outdoor, wet and dry conditions," Gary Stevens, GRI's president of sales, U.S., said.
