PARIS—Airbus S.A.S. has tapped Goodyear on a conditional basis to supply tires for Airbus's new range of A321XLR commercial airliners.
The Akron-based tire maker said it has been conditionally selected to supply its Flight Radial aircraft tires for the main and nose landing gear of the A321XLR, an extended-range version of Airbus' twin-engine 320 family of passenger aircraft.
Goodyear described its Flight Radial as one of its most advanced aviation products. The tire "incorporates Goodyear Featherweight alloy core bead technology and strong, rigid tread belts with enhanced rubber that offer dimensional stability, longer service life and increased cut resistance," Goodyear said.
Dan Smytka, president of Goodyear's off-highway business, said the Flight Radial tires will be an excellent fit for the Airbus A321XLR, which the European aircraft manufacturer launched at the Paris Air Show the week of June 17.
Airbus said in the news release that the aircraft has a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, about 15 percent more than the company's A321LR aircraft but with similar fuel efficiency.
