HARGESHEIM, Germany—Metorlogical solutions supplier GL Messtechnik GmbH has spun off its tire measurement unit ahead of an anticipated rebound in the automotive and tire industries.
Part of the former Dr. Noll GmbH, the business now operates under the name GL Inspect GmbH.
Christian Lantzsch will lead the unit, which offers measuring systems exclusively for the tire sector. The systems include newly developed and patented circular triangulation sensors, as well as services in the field of weld seam and hollow body inspection, GL Messtechnik said in a recent statement.
Other products include optical measurement systems for quality control during tire production process as well as tread wear analysis.
GL Inspect will focus on tire measurement systems in order to meet "the constantly growing demands of the tire market," GL Messtechnik said.
In particular, the company expects tread wear measurement to become a "more interesting" topic in coming years, due to ongoing discussions about the reduction of microparticles.
"As far as we know, it is planned to also introduce a tread wear mark on the tire label," Lantzsch said in a written statement to ERJ.
Under his leadership, Lantzsch aims to bring new ideas and products to the company.
"Our goal is to implement optical measurement applications that were previously only found on paper," he said. "(The aim) is to introduce automate processes where manual measurements are currently performed."
