Perhaps the most unique features about the ContiRaceAttack 2 Street tires are the tread design and carcass construction.
Using a "BlackChili Compound" in the tread, the tire features a "homogenous gradation of grip levels."
This gradation in grip is a function of curing the tire at different temperatures during production.
"The BMW M 1000 XR rider therefore experiences no disruptive transitions between different compounds when switching from the central tread area to the shoulder," Conti stated in a Dec. 11 release on the Conti-BMW partnership. "The ContiRaceAttack 2 Street thus combines perfect grip with high mileage and maximum feedback."
The "BlackChili Compound" is a patented tread compound which combines raw rubber with a synthetic rubber to create a high-performance compound with "nanometric carbon black particles."
Essentially, the innovative technology found in the carcass actually increases safety at steep angles, Conti said.
In addition, a zero-degree steel belt construction—always aligned in the direction of travel—also enables excellent stability at high speeds.
The front tire of the BMW high-performance bike registers at 120/70, while the rear wheel is fitted with a 200/55 tire.
The ContiRaceAttack 2 Street also is offered for the rear axle in 180/55, 190/50 and 190/55. The bike can be operated with standard air pressure on country roads and with reduced air pressure on the racetrack.
"Just as BMW Motorrad has put its collective performance know-how into the development of the M 1000 XR, we at Continental have applied our extensive expertise and passion for sporty motorcycling to the development of the ContiRaceAttack 2 Street," said Malte-Lauritz Bigge, head test rider for motorcycle tires at Continental. "With their wide range of innovative technical solutions for maximum performance, the hypersport tires and the crossover bike complement each other perfectly.
"This combination can inspire even the most demanding customers."
