FORT MILL, S.C.—Continental Tire North America Inc. is changing the nomenclature it uses for its lines of CityService commercial waste-transport tires and retreads for improved clarity.
The new naming process uses the vehicle classification, axle configuration, and application for which the tire was designed.
For example, Conti said, the Conti HAU 3 WT is a heavy-duty truck tire (H), designed for all-position use (A) in urban applications (U) for waste transport (WT).
The tire maker describes the new nomenclature as "descriptive and easy to use," ensuring that tire dealers and fleets are able to pinpoint the tire's application and usage at a glance.
Besides the HAU 3 WT—which is available as a new tire in 315/80R22.5 Load Range L—the naming change affects the drive-axle product in the same family, which now will be known as the ContiTread HDU 3 WT.
Both products' treads also are available as retreads in 210mm to 280mm widths. Conti noted the variety of widths ensure the retread can fit all major casing sizes available on the market accurately, delivering the best retread performance.
