HANOVER, Germany—Continental A.G. has recalled more than 67,000 ContiEcoContact 5 tires—67,128, to be exact—in size 235/55 R 17 103 H XL, due to sudden loss of pressure.
The tires were manufactured from week 40 of 2015 to week 2 of 2021, said Conti in a Nov. 26 statement.
The tire maker has launched of a voluntary tire replacement program "to avoid any potential risk to drivers of vehicles equipped with these tires."
Conti said there were three cases in which "a sudden drop in pressure occurred," with one of those cases resulting in "minor property damage." No injuries were reported, the company said.
The German manufacturer said the "rare case of sudden loss of air" had been reported when the tires were used "repeatedly or for a long period of time under heavy load or overload conditions."
Active monitoring of Continental markets identified this condition only in VW Caravelle and Multivan.
The affected tires have been delivered to users in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, France, Romania, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom.
