    FORT MILL, S.C.—Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C. is rolling out its first product of the new year, the ExtremeContact DWS-06 Plus, a premium, ultra-high performance all-season tire that soon will be available in 100 sizes, covering 96 percent of the market.

    The product, which replaces the ExtremeContact SWS-06 in the Conti lineup, was rolled out during a virtual event held Jan. 6 before an audience of select dealers and media.

    "We feel like it's a strong tire, and we feel like it's going to be a home run," Chris Charity, vice president of sales at Continental Tires the Americas, said during the event. "We hope you like it like we do and the performance it provides."

    The tire, which was developed over the last four years with input from more than 100 engineers and scientists, will fit most any vehicle from the Mini Cooper to the BMW X5 SUV, up to 22-inch wheels.

    All sizes will be available with the exception of five sizes, which will be phased in. Those sizes are made to fit both Tesla and Corvette models.

    "These tires will appeal to a range of range of car enthusiasts, including those looking for performance- or premium-driven tires," Conti product manager Bjoern Glaeser said during the presentation.

    Glaeser said the tire's attributes include:

    • Performance: Improved dry handling and wet handling;
    • Improved snow traction;
    • Improved braking, dry by 4 percent and wet by 9 percent; and
    • Outstanding tread life, backed by a 50,000-mile warranty.

    The tire, Glaeser said, is aesthetically almost identical to the product it replaces, with one exception: One rib on the tire pattern is reversed from the Extreme Contact DWS-06.

    "It's everything our customers loved," Glaeser said, "made even better."

    Dealers can order the tire now, and shipping will commence on Jan. 24.

    The tires will be manufactured at Continental plants in the U.S., Europe and other parts of the Americas.
