BEIJING—The China Rubber Industry Association has published guidelines for the rubber industry's development from 2021 to 2025, including goals for production, technology upgrades and energy consumption for a range of segments.
For the tire sector, CRIA published the following targets, without providing the current levels of production for comparison: Total annual production of 704 million units for the car, truck, agricultural, aircraft and OTR sectors by 2025, of which 96 percent will be radial.
Of this goal:
- 527 million units will be radial passenger tires;
- 148 million units will be radial truck/bus tires and 29 million units bias-ply truck/bus tires;
- 12 million units of agricultural tires, of which 16 percent will be radial, versus 2.5 percent currently;
- 20,000 units of giant radial OTR tires;
- 54,000 units of aircraft tires.
Other goals CRIA outlined include: commercialization of radial aircraft tires; truck/bus tire production reach 70 percent tubeless; increase the share of low-profile (45 to 55 series) passenger car tires to 30 percent; and ensure that at least 70 percent of tires on the market are green tires.
In the two-wheeler tire sector, annual production of motorcycle tires should hit 120.7 million units by 2025, along with 211.1 million inner tubes; production of bicycle tires and tubes should hit 420 million and 550 million units, respectively; and production of moped tires and tubes should reach 363 million and 77 million units, respectively.
Other goals include: commercialization of radial motorcycle tire; develop higher speed-rated motorcycle tires; develop "ultra-thin" sidewall for bicycle and moped tires; and increase the ratio of lightweight tires to 30 percent.
