GUANGZHOU, Guangdong—The Guangzhou municipal government is spending $81 million to build China's first large-scale research center for aircraft tires.
The project is in the bidding process from Aug. 1-26, according to the local government.
The Aircraft Tire Big Science Center will cover 270,000 square feet and house facilities for subjects such as elastic new materials, smart elastane, elastane compounds interface, frontier theories for aircraft tires, tire digital twin and tire dynamics. It also will contain a tire museum.
As a debottlenecking project, the center will base its work on existing research for military use by Guangzhou's Huangpu Advanced Materials Institute, an affiliate of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and transfer the core materials and technology to civil use.
The center will start operation by the end of 2021 and plans to develop products at a level same as Michelin's within 10 years.
