SACRAMENTO—The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) has issued $2.2 million in grants to seven California companies under its Tire Incentive Program.
The program reimburses California businesses based on the sale of products that use recycled scrap tires, creating financial incentives for manufacturers to competitively price and market their products, CalRecycle said in a press release.
This round of grants will pay for the use of 1.8 million waste tires in products such as tiles, shingles and traffic cones, the agency said.
The three largest Tire Incentive Program grants—worth $500,000 each—went to:
- Herbert Malarkey Roofing Co., d/b/a Malarkey Roofing Products, Los Angeles, to make roofing shingles;
- Traffix Devices Inc., Orange, Calif., to make traffic device bases.
- U.S. Rubber Recycling Inc., San Bernardino, Calif., to make sports floor surfacing.
Remaining grants were awarded to: Bent Manufacturing Co./BOAA Inc. of Orange, Calif., $70,132; Environmental Molding Concepts L.L.C. of Riverside, Calif., $161,750; Mission Rubber Co. of Riverside, Calif., $128,000; and Three D Plastics Inc. of Los Angeles, $329,259.
