TOKYO—Bridgestone is consolidating its aircraft retread tire production operations in Asia, merging Hong Kong-based Bridgestone Aircraft Tire Co. Asia (BAA) with its Chonburi-based subsidiary Bridgestone Aircraft Tire Manufacturing Thailand (BAMT).
In a July 11 statement, the Japanese tire maker said the move is part of its mid-long term strategy to restructure manufacturing footprint and optimize production.
As part of the move, the Hong Kong subsidiary will cease operation by the end of June 2023 and be consolidated to BAMT.
Established in 1991, BAA has 102 employees and is involved in sales and manufacturing of retread aircraft tires.
Bridgestone established the Thailand operations in Chonburi in 2017 where it employs 94 people.
In addition to the Thailand facility, Bridgestone also operates an aircraft tire production unit in Qingdao, China; a retread plant in Mayodan, N.C.; and a facility in Frameries, Belgium.
