There are several different classes of organic peroxides used in crosslinking HNBR. Understanding these peroxides and how co-agents interact with them is an important consideration when developing optimized compounds.
The most common are Dialkyl-type organic peroxides, which provide high crosslink efficiency and scorch safety. However, cure temperature can be a limitation because these peroxides require either cure temperatures greater than 160°C or longer cure times when below the optimum decomposition temperature of the peroxide.
This paper shows how proper selection of peroxides in combination with co-agents can provide HNBR compounds with optimized processing and physical properties.
