BANGKOK, Thailand—Indorama Ventures has advanced sustainability efforts with the production of 100 percent bio-based polymers for tire and other specialty applications.
The high-tenacity PA4,10 yarn is manufactured at the group's site in Obernburg, Germany, and is produced from 'mass balanced' 100 percent bio-based sebacic acid and bio-based di-amino butane.
The Thai-based chemicals group said it also achieved ISCC Plus certification for two other fiber manufacturing sites in Italy and China.
Both units, it said, are supplying technical yarns for applications in mobility, tire cords and airbags as well as industrial and technical rubber goods.
Among other products, Indorama now produces "mass balanced" PA6,6 and PA4,6 at its sites in Obernburg and Pizzighettone, Italy, the group said in a news release without specifying the sustainability percentage.
Developed in collaboration with key partners, these products are claimed to match the performance of standard polyamide yarns while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent at the polymer level.
Indorama also is producing recycled PET yarns and tire cord fabric at its manufacturing site in Kaiping, China.
The yarns and fabrics, it said, are made from 100 percent recycled PET, highlighting the company's "circular practices and lower carbon products."
The certifications, Indorama said, reinforce the group's commitment to expanding its portfolio of sustainable fibers for the tire and automotive industries, including airbags.
