Freudenberg Medical receives sustainability certification across 11 facilities

BEVERLY, Mass.—Freudenberg Medical L.L.C. is demonstrating its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability as it has achieved ISO 14001 certification for 11 facilities in the U.S., Costa Rica, Germany, Ireland and China.

The audit that allowed for the ISO certification was completed at Freudenberg Medical's new operation in Beverly. The effort to reduce its carbon footprint and conserve vital natural resources involved "several hundred" employees, Freudenberg said.

Freudenberg's facility at its Carrick-on-Shannon site in Ireland optimized its energy efficiency as part of its certification, and an Indiana manufacturing facility partnered with a university for a sustainability audit.

Overall, Freudenberg has improved its global energy efficiency by 10 percent and eliminated about 36 percent of its waste. In addition, 100 percent of all scrapped silicone and plastic material generated is recycled, the company said.

Processes such as cold and hot runner tooling also have reduced excess raw material usage.
