BERWYN, Pa.—Trinseo S.A. has decided to continue operating a styrene monomer production plant in Boehlen, in eastern Germany, according to president and CEO Frank Bozich.
"After a thorough evaluation, we have made the decision to continue operating the plant," Bozich said in a third quarter earnings call Nov. 5.
The decision comes on the back of a new feedstock supply agreement, which according to Bozich, will provide for greater operational flexibility and "significantly improve" the competitiveness of the plant, which produces 300,000 metric tons per year.
Trinseo Deutschland initiated a consultation process with employee representatives to review the future of the plant in March.
At the time, Trinseo said the Boehlen site's average production during the past three years has been 200,000 tons per year due to several factors, including upstream supply issues.
In 2019, production at the unit was 150,000 tons per year, reflecting some unplanned outages, according to Trinseo.
