FORT WORTH, Texas—Tokai Carbon CB Ltd. will increase prices for its carbon black products by 6 cents per pound.
The change will take effect Aug. 1 or as contracts allow, according to a Tokai news release. The EPA consent decree surcharge also will increase from 3 cents to 4 cents per pound.
Tokai also is changing standard packaging and premium charges at the start of 2020. Those changes are outlined in documents on the company's website at tokaicarboncb.com/pricing-and-terms, which will show both current and updated charges until they go into effect Jan. 1.
New agreements concluded in 2019 will use the updated pricing structure as well as Tokai's actual corporate monthly average laid-in CBO cost as the feedstock reference price, the firm said.
The price increases will provide needed capital to reinvest in operations and complete environmental compliance requirements. Tokai said the North American carbon black market is modifying and the changes are needed to allow Tokai to best serve its customers.
Tokai is a member of the Tokai Carbon Group, a producer of carbon blacks in the U.S. with production facilities in Borger and Big Spring, Texas; and Addis, La. It serves markets in industries including tires, manufactured rubber goods, plastics, coatings, inks and toners.
