AKRON—A team of cyclists representing Harwick Standard Distribution Corp. came up big in a recent bicycle charity ride.
Team Harwick Standard took first place honors in the 2022 Huntington Towpath Century Ride fundraiser for groups of five and up. But more importantly, they raised $14,669 to help benefit the continued development, maintenance and enhancement of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
The ride was 101 miles long, starting in Cleveland and pedaling the entire length of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, to New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Participants of Team Harwick Standard included: Harwick retirees Roger Read and Dave Schultz; Scott Paazig from Cooper-Standard; Gerard Neugebauer, mayor of Green, Ohio; Harwick Standard President Ernie Pouttu; and Tim Miller, Joe Mazur, Pete Cookro and Carly Pouttu.
Harwick Standard has participated in all 13 annual Towpath Century Rides, dating back to 2010, and officials said they already are looking ahead to next year.
The Akron-based distributor has serviced the rubber, thermoplastics and polymer-related industries for 90 years.
