CERRITOS, Calif.—R.D. Abbott Co. Inc. and Alpha Technologies are joining forces to present a one-day course on rheology applications Feb. 10 at R.D. Abbott's headquarters in Cerritos.
The cost of the course is $997 and includes hands-on training, training materials, a continental breakfast and lunch, according to R.D. Abbott, a full service elastomers supplier and materials science company.
"Alpha Technologies and R.D. Abbott will bridge the gap between what test results mean and how to use this data to develop superior products backed by scientific accuracy," said Rick Ziebell, an R.D. Abbott research fellow. "The Rheology Applications Course is an excellent learning opportunity in polymers and how they cure."
Hudson, Ohio-based Alpha Technologies will offer the use of its rheology testing instruments for the course, including the Premiere RPA, touted by Alpha as "the first instrument capable of measuring rubber compounds before, during, and after cure in a single test."
The companies said the course will offer hands-on experience about the science and technology behind the testing instruments, allowing engineers to troubleshoot material and process issues on site.
Participants will work with instructors Henry Pawlowski and Rick Hanzlik of Alpha Technologies' application specialists, along with Ziebell.
Pawlowski is a chemist with more than 40 years of rheometry experience and was part of a team that invented the Premiere RPA. Hanzlik is a chemical engineer who uses rheometers with thermoset polymers that include rubber.
According to R.D. Abbott, Ziebell has more than 35 years of application development experience in the rubber industry and is an instructor for a two-semester long course in basic rubber technology for the Los Angeles Rubber Group.
