Pirelli awards suppliers for sustainability, service, performance

MILAN, Italy—Pirelli and C. S.p.A. is placing a premium on sustainability, and that goes for the companies with which the tire maker works, as well.

Pirelli on Oct. 12 awarded its nine top suppliers for 2022, based on a dedication to renewable resources, quality, innovation, performance and level of service.

"The sharing of our company values with our suppliers is a key step toward achieving the goals we have set, in particular those linked to sustainability and innovation," said Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice chairman and CEO of Pirelli. "These strategic factors enable us to remain competitive even at this particular time. For this reason, we wanted to award the companies that have become important partners for our activities throughout the world."

Pirelli noted that its 2022 Supplier Awards—Pirelli has about 15,000 total suppliers—are confirmation of the use of renewable or recycled resources and demonstrate a commitment to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Chief Procurement Officer Andrea Maganzani and Tronchetti announced the awards at a ceremony Oct. 12 at Pirelli's headquarters in Milan.

About 150 of Pirelli's more than 15,000 suppliers attended the event, which focused on de-carbonization and Pirelli's 2025 Industrial Plan, which directs the company toward a 9-percent reduction in GHG emissions by 2025, based on a 2018 figure.

Companies receiving awards included:

• Sustainability: DRT (France), a supplier of bio-chemical products;
• Quality: Evonik (Germany), a silica supplier;
• Innovation: Asahi Kasei Corp. (Japan), a supplier of synthetic rubber; and Amazon Web Services (U.S.), a partner for digital transformation;
• Performance: Jiangsu Xingda Steel Tyre Cord Group Corp. (China), a supplier of metallic reinforcements; and
• Service: Kordsa (Turkey), a supplier of textile reinforcements; DHL Global Forwarding (Italy) S.p.A (Italy), an international logistics partner; Fortek Srl (Italy), a supplier of products and services for industry; and DCS Multiserve Ltd. (U.K.), a supplier of general services.
