HORGEN, SWITZERLAND—Dow is providing materials for pre-qualification testing of power cables as National Grid Saudi Arabia works toward a power grid infrastructure upgrade.
NGSA is a subsidiary of Saudi Electricity Co. and is "seeing rapid progress in upgrading its power grid infrastructure with the help of national and international cable manufacturers," Dow said.
"This is being achieved by replacing the old high voltage cable underground network consisting of oil-filled cables with XLPE cables. It is being further boosted up by the induction of XLPE cables at extra high voltage level," the company said.
Local cable manufacturers in Saudi Arabia are stepping into production of EVH cables at the 380kV level, which has successfully conducted pre-qualification testing of those cables, according to Dow.
Dow said its Endurance brand insulation system for power cables is being used by Saudi cable manufacturers in the upgrade.
