MUMBAI—Global carbon black manufacturer Birla Carbon has joined with Chasm Advanced Materials Inc. in a project to accelerate the discovery and development of nanomaterials to benefit various markets including high-performance tires, coatings and next-generation batteries.
"Hybrids of carbon nanotubes with existing substrates leads to new, scalable nanomaterials for a wide variety of end-markets," Birla said in a press release.
Through the agreement, Birla and Chasm will share research and engineering resources to develop and manufacture hybrid nanomaterials based on carbon substrates and carbon nanotubes, the carbon black maker said.
The hybrid nanomaterials developed under the agreement will combine Chasm's nanotube enhanced carbon technology with Birla's manufacturing expertise, according to Birla.
"The collaboration is ultimately aimed at driving sustainable innovative solutions to address customer, consumer and industry needs," Birla said.
Birla Carbon is one of the flagship businesses of the $48.3 billion Aditya Birla Group. It has 16 manufacturing facilities in 12 countries, as well as technology centers in Marietta, Ga., and Taloja, India.
Chasm Advanced Materials is a developer and manufacturer of printed electronics materials based on proprietary carbon nanotube and ink/coating technologies, according to Birla.
