MUNICH—Wacker Chemie A.G. has expanded its silicone products portfolio for hair care and cosmetics with the addition Belsil DM 3200 E, a silicone fluid emulsion solution, and Belsil PF 100, a gloss agent.
Wacker said Belsil DM 3200 E, a fine-particle emulsion of a high-viscosity dimethiconol in water, is intended for use in items such as shampoos and conditioners, as it makes hair easier to comb after washing and leaves hair feeling softer to the touch.
In a news release, Wacker cites a laboratory test that compares the combing of hair with and without the product. The force needed to comb wet, treated hair is reduced more than 50 percent when the product is used, Wacker said.
The results, the silicones material firm said, are achieved in part because the Belsil DM 3200 E emulsion has a low viscosity, which makes it straightforward to use.
Belsil DM 3200 E also has what Wacker calls an "extraordinarily low content of cyclic silicone oligomers." The emulsion's content lies well below 0.1 percent.
"The good conditioning properties of the high-molecular viscous silicone were unlocked by the development of a patented production process that is capable of dispersing the dimethiconol in the form of tiny droplets," Wacker said in the news release. "When the hair is shampooed, the emulsion's silicone fluid droplets, which are just 160 nanometers in diameter, are deposited selectively on the hair fibers, protecting the hair much better than less finely dispersed emulsions."
