CASSOPOLIS, Mich.—CHT USA, a chemical manufacturer of specialty silicone across a range of industries, has broken ground on a planned $20 million expansion at its headquarters in the southwest corner of Michigan.
The silicone polymer plant is expected to add 30 jobs and 45,000 square feet, bringing the total footprint at the Cass County location to about 120,000 square feet.
"This investment will expand our global footprint, balance our supply base and allow us to establish production redundancy," said Ken Kemerer, CHT USA managing director. "It provides significant growth opportunities for our innovative line of sustainable products."
More than 50 people attended the June 15 groundbreaking, including officials from local, county and state governments, neighbors and area business leaders, CHT employees, management team.
CHT USA Employee Engagement Coordinator Melanie Hunsberger hosted the ceremony.
CHT USA was founded in 1989, formerly ICM Products Inc. The company offers silicone polymers, defoamers, gels and specialty emulsions.
Parent company CHT Group, headquartered in Tubingen, Germany, did about $640 million in sales in 2021 and has about 2,400 employees.
