Registration open for 4-day silicone course in California

CERRITOS, Calif.—Those interested in learning about the design and fabrication techniques of liquid silicone rubber and high consistency rubber can sign up for an April 5-8 course, offered in part by an expert at R.D. Abbott.

The four-day "Silicone Elastomers Technology and Fabrication" course will be taught by Rick Ziebell, vice president of technology and technical fellow at R.D. Abbott, and other industry experts.

The forum will offer participants 3.2 continuing education credits from California State Polytechnic University at Pomona.

The in-person event will be at the Kellogg West Conference Center and Hotel in Pomona, as well as at M.R. Mold & Engineering in Brea, Calif., for a one-day field trip.

The educational forum will center on HCR and LSR, as well as techniques for extruding LSR and calendering HCR.

Material selection, design, tooling and virtual simulation techniques will be offered, and pump, press, calender and extruder designs for peak performance will be a focus of the course.

Secondary processes like post-curing, de-flashing and overmolding also will be examined.

Entry-level and experienced industry personnel are welcome, as is anyone who is seeking general information about silicone rubber design and fabrication.

Besides Ziebell, instructors will include John Timmerman, CEO for Poly-Nova Technologies; Rick Finnie, president of M.R. Mold & Engineering; Stefan Scheibner, application technician for Arburg Inc.; and Bob Pelletier, operations manager for Elmet North America Inc.
