WATERFORD, N.Y.—Momentive is pledging to take steps toward sustainability, saying it will continue to build on the progress made in 2019. The company, a worldwide supplier of silicones and advanced materials, recently released its Global Reporting Initiative findings, highlighting its sustainability efforts.
"We will continue to elevate and integrate sustainability into Vision 2025, setting goals around energy consumption, waste, and greenhouse gas emissions," President and CEO Sam Conzone said in a statement. "Enabling sustainability is not only the right thing for our business financially, but it is also the right thing to do socially. I am excited by the possibilities of a more sustainable future and by the impact Momentive can have."
There are a number of ways Momentive intends to move forward in its sustainability efforts, but Conzone notes that it will count on its people, products and manufacturing efforts to get there.
"Our high-performance silicones and specialty products help customers solve challenges more sustainably in industries ranging from automotive, to beauty and personal care, agriculture, construction, and advanced consumer products," Conzone said.
He pointed to Momentive's NXT silanes as one product that can make a difference. The silanes, which are used to help reduce rolling resistance in tires, ultimately help to reduce fuel consumption and GHG emissions.
Momentive also is increasing its effort to develop naturally derived additives for beauty and personal care items.
Additionally, Momentive's roof coatings help to extend the life of roofing products, while polyurethane foams help to reduce energy consumption of appliances and in homes, according to Conzone.
"Momentive is proud of the accomplishments presented in the 2019 Sustainability Report and will continue to drive sustainability," the company said.
