It's still early in 2020, and I want to take this opportunity to share some happenings here on the Rubber & Plastics News editorial team. You're going to see some new names atop the stories in our print issue and across our digital platforms, and some introductions are in order.
First is Catherine Kavanaugh, one of two new reporters joining the RPN staff. She comes to us from Plastics News, a sister publication within the Global Polymer Group of Crain Communications. Before joining PN in 2013, she spent 16 years writing for a daily paper in Michigan. Catherine's main beats will be automotive and medical, but she will help out in some other areas as well.
Also joining RPN from Plastics News is Jim Johnson, who has reported for PN for nearly seven years. Prior to that, Jim wrote for Waste & Recycling News, another Crain publication, from 1997 until 2013, after working a dozen years for daily newspapers. Jim will be covering legislative and regulatory issues, along with recycling, for both RPN and Tire Business, another Crain sister publication.
While Catherine and Jim may be new to rubber, they are journalism veterans and will catch on to the comings and goings of our industry in no time.
Unfortunately, with new faces coming in, we are sad to see a couple mainstays of our editorial team leaving. News Editor Chris Sweeney, with RPN since 2013, has left for a new opportunity in the next phase of his career.
And Miles Moore, the veteran of the RPN and Tire Business teams, will be retiring from covering the Washington scene after 43 years. Any of you who have had dealings with Miles knows that he is a true professional, with a gift for getting right to the crux of some extremely complicated issues.
I've been with Rubber & Plastics News for nearly 32 years, so I don't know what it will be like to work without Miles. Luckily we've still got a bit of time before bidding Miles a professional farewell. He will begin his retirement on April 1.
So while I have sadness in seeing Miles and Chris leave, I look forward to working with my new colleagues as we keep you informed about everything you need to know in our vibrant industry.
