MEDINA, Ohio—Rubber industry veteran John Deputy died earlier this year after a short battle with cancer. He was 78.
He graduated from Purdue University in 1964 with a degree in chemical engineering. He started his rubber industry career in sales for B.F. Goodrich Go., and then with Ameripol Synpol (which later became ISP) where he spent a good deal of his career. He also worked for Uniroyal Chemical, Kish Co. and Americas International.
Deputy was active in the ACS Rubber Division, and served as the chair of the 25-Year Club. He received the Rubber Division's Certificate of Appreciation in 2011.
Scott Legleu, now with R.D. Abbott Co. Inc., worked with him at Ameripol Synpol, and said Deputy was "fondly remembered" for hosting the karaoke event the company sponsored every year.
Deputy is survived by his wife, Julia; daughter Michele Calloway; son John Patrick Deputy; sister Barbara (David) Parkers; and two grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to Gideons International.
