BUERS, Austria—Polyurethane vibration control is making life much quieter on board Singapore Maritime and Port Authority's new patrol boats.
Getzner supplied its Sylomer polyurethane vibration control material to Lita Ocean, the naval architecture company that supplied the six new boats to the Authority. The polyurethane elastomer is used to mount the wheelhouse to the body of the ships.
Keith Wong, area sales manager for Getzner in Singapore, said decoupling the wheelhouse from the body lowers noise levels significantly, and ensures standard-compliant working conditions.
"The bearings decouple sources of vibration such as drive motors, HVAC or pumps and protect sensitive electronic components in the wheelhouse," Wong said.
It reduced the noise in the wheelhouse to 79.2dB. Two grades of the polyurethane material are used: the softer SR11 and the stiffer SR42.
