HIRATSUKA, Japan—One subsidiary of Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. was helping villages affected by flooding in Thailand throughout December 2024.
As part of its "Caring for the Future" mantra, Yokohama subsidiary Y.T. Rubber Co. Ltd. (YTRC) provided food and water to families from more than 200 villages affected by the heavy rains across southern Thailand. Yokohama said that the affected area included the country's Surat Thani Province, where YTRC is located.
"YTRC provided a package consisting of 5kg of rice and 12 500-milliliter PET bottles of water to each of 235 households in two neighboring villages," Yokohama officials said. "By having its employees personally deliver essential supplies to affected households immediately after the disaster, the company was able to further strengthen its relationship of trust with local residents."
The company added that YTRC and its employees provided similar support during both the 2020 and 2021 flood seasons. The company also works with the Rubber Authority of Thailand under Yokohama's "Procurement Policy for Sustainable Natural Rubber" to economically support Asia's natural rubber farmers.
"In addition to its disaster relief efforts, the company has sponsored various local events and provided seedlings in support of local tree-planting activities," Yokohama said. "YTRC also supports the local community by providing the fruit from palm trees and the fish from a pond within the company grounds, thus contributing a source of food and income for local residents."
In addition to flood relief by YTRC, Yokohama has used its funds to address social and environmental issues across the globe, the company said.
