DES MOINES, Iowa—A woman died after being struck by a tire at Titan International's production facility in Des Moines.
First responders were called to the facility at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 5 after a tire weighing "several hundred pounds" fell on a woman, according to the Des Moines Police Department. Responders were unable to save her life.
The woman, who was not identified, was not a Titan worker but employed by local staffing agency QPS Employment Group, the police said.
"Titan deeply regrets to announce the tragic loss of a QPS Employment Group employee who was performing services at our Des Moines, Iowa, facility. Our thoughts are with the employee's family, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time," Titan said in a statement.
"We are committed to supporting them in every way possible, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities and QPS Employment Group to ensure all safety protocols are thoroughly reviewed and enforced."
Illinois-based Titan primarily produces tires and wheels for the agriculture industry.
